About the Program
The Bryan Journey is a program developed through the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) and is designed to nurture first-year students into academic success at Bryan College as well as to develop continuing students into a successful college career. The Bryan Journey is more than just a one-semester focus on student success, but rather a four-year “journey” in excellence.The Bryan Journey's goal is to meet specific learning outcomes and has a broad-based involvement in planning for students, administration, staff, faculty, alumni, and trustees. The Bryan Journey involves a comprehensive assessment program that evaluates the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) all along the way.
The Bryan Journey seeks to enhance the academic climate for student learning. The Bryan Journey incorporates the Academic Alerts, College Success Seminar (COL100), and the Common Reading Program, and much more.
Early Academic Alerts
Early Academic Alert is a formal communication tool for faculty and staff to help identify and intervene on behalf of students who exhibit risk factors and face failure in a class or face withdrawal from the University because of personal, academic or financial issues.Faculty and staff can submit information safely and securely on students experiencing academic challenges or other issues. Enrollment Management staff will then contact students in an effort to promptly assist them.
College Success Seminar (COL 100)
College Success Seminar is a one-hour core curriculum course that is designed to empower students to reach their educational and career goals by introducing students to strategies, techniques, and self-management tools commonly recognized to lead to success. Topics include- Educational/career goal setting
- Success skills and strategies
- Utilization and knowledge of campus resources
Ultimately, the course seeks to help students understand how and why individuals need to take responsibility for their education and life choices, and how doing so will help them be more successful in college and in life. College Success Seminar, COL100, meets at 11:00 a.m. on Thursdays in Rudd Auditorium with the entire class of first-year students. After a short lecture, each class session will be divided into small groups for review and a short quiz.
Academic Support Center
The Academic Support Center serves hundreds of students across all disciplines.The ASC is designed to help developing students master the art of writing college-level papers and has given way to a program that offers exam proctoring, help for writing research papers, calculus, languages, or the finer points of cell biology.

Writing Center
At the Bryan Writing Center, we believe that writers need readers. Why? Because writers write for readers. When you write, you participate in a conversation—a conversation between you and your reader. But unlike other kinds of conversations, your reader usually won’t have the opportunity to ask for more explanation, clarify meanings of words, or point out gaps in your logic. Talking through your writing with another person helps you identify potential questions about it so you can make it clearer and more convincing—before you present your finished work to your audience.More specifically, if you’re uncertain about how to begin, we can help you understand your assignment and brainstorm. If you have ideas but can’t get started, we can help you get some words on paper and make a plan. If you have a specific question about grammar or punctuation, we can help you find the answer. If you only want to talk through your ideas and test their logic or clarity, we’re excited about discussing them with you. Learn more about the Writing Center here.
