Buddy Information

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. Psalm 139:13-14 (NLT)

Your Responsibility

After you are assigned to your student, you will follow them through the welcome line and hang with them for the rest of the time they are at Bryan. . . playing all the games, visiting each booth, just being a friend and making them feel like honored guests the whole time they are with us.  Do what they want to do. Cheer them and encourage them at each station.  You will be eating with your student and staying with them until they board the school bus to leave. Your job is to love on them and let them and the world know that they are God’s special treasures and that He loves them SO much!  This will be a powerful testimony of the sanctity of every human life that God has created.

Because the dining hall will be a new space for our guests, we are counting on you to facilitate the process of their going through lines, knowing what their options are, and taking items to the dish return area after the meal.  Please note that we have a food line especially designed for the younger children. Here are the options:
  • Serving Line #1:  Pulled Pork Sandwiches, French Fries, Corn, Green Beans
  • Serving Line #2:  Pizza (cheese & pepperoni), Macaroni & Cheese, Chicken Strips, French Fries
  • Salad Bar
  • Dessert Options:  Brownies, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Ice Cream Cabinet for self service

Your Preparation

We realize that you may feel unprepared and perhaps even a bit apprehensive about what the day may bring. Those who have volunteered at other Luke 14 events say that when they have offered a heart of compassion and a desire to share the love of Christ, they are amazed at what God has done in and through them. We are confident your experience will be the same.

You will be paired up with a student based on the grade-level indicated here. You will also receive an e-mail a couple days before the event with the student's first name and a brief description that will provide insight on how you can best connect with your student. You can also prepare for this responsibility by completing the required online training.
