Résumés

Crafting an exceptional résumé is a key part of presenting yourself well and being ready for your job or internship search.

The résumé is often the first impression an employer has of you. You want to be able to clearly and concisely communicate who you are and your work-related experiences.

However, knowing where to start and how to create a competitive résumé can be a challenge. It doesn’t have to be overly difficult. With resources and direction, you can have what it takes to develop a strong résumé.

A résumé is a snapshot of you. It is a concise, well-crafted document that showcases the things you have done over time, including skills attained and responsibilities given, within your profession and your general life experience.

Writing Your Résumé

  • Include all the major sections: Header, Objective, Education, Work Experience, and Leadership & Skills.
  • Write 2-5 descriptive bullet points under each position.
  • Start each bullet point with a strong, action verb.
  • Use quantitative language to show how much and how often your performed your duties to give context to your marketable skills and projects.
  • Be consistent in including company name, location, dates worked, and position title for each job.

It not only allows you to express your personality but gives you freedom to exceed the “one page” resume rule that many employers follow, allowing you to highlight important sections that might not fit on your resume. Within a competitive job market it will certainly play to your advantage. Below are a few commonly used online portfolio websites:
