Welcome to H.D. Long Hall, Bryan's most-storied residence hall, if for no other reason than it's the oldest! Housing a unique blend of upper and underclassmen, Long has consistently been a place of fun and camaraderie, housing strong communities of growth for its residents.
While the building itself bears the name, it's the people that make Long Hall the place that it is. Each year the different personalities of its residents serve as the ingredients to an amazing concoction that is different from the year before and that I could have never imagined. Perhaps you will be one of those personalities soon...so look around and get a feel for H.D. Long Hall!
Matt Williams ("Matty")
Resident Director, H.D. Long Hall
Spouse: Kati Williams, the First Lady of Long Hall (married three years!)
Hometown: Decatur, Georgia
College Attended: Bryan College, B.A. in English Literature
Hobbies/Sports: Running, biking, basketball, anything outdoors-related like hiking or camping, card games and Settlers of Catan, writing, photography, traveling, good conversation and discovering unique eating establishments.
A word that best describes me: Simmering
Favorite quote: “If a man is called to be a streetsweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great streetsweeper who did his job well.” ~ Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Favorite food: A cheeseburger is never the wrong answer.
Last book read: Drive by Daniel Pink
Favorite TV show: The Office and American Pickers
Favorite music: I can't ever go wrong with Switchfoot, U2 or Rich Mullins. I'm really liking Lecrae right now too, and I'm really
trying to like Sufjan Stevens' "The Age of Adz" but I haven't succeeded yet.
Best residence life memory from college: The almost nightly impromptu dogpiles on unsuspecting residents, which we affectionately called "floor activities" (these often corresponded with, but were not limited to, someone's birthday), growing together with guys, and late-night conversations about both the serious and the trivial.
A random fact about myself: My family had horrible luck with pets when I was growing up. One dog jumped off a bridge, another hung himself with his leash while freaking out in a thunderstorm and another's stomach "spontaneously flipped" internally one day and he "imploded" (doctor's words...not mine).
Interesting fact about my building: H.D. Long, built in 1964, was originally built as a men’s residence hall, but has spent almost as much time serving as a women’s residence hall over the years. The building changed back to a full-time men’s hall in the fall of 2006.
What I like about being a resident director at Bryan: I love the fact that I get to live out my life as a Christian man in front of young men who are changing and growing every day. To have the constant opportunity to speak into their lives, to learn from them and to grow alongside them is humbling.
What I love about Bryan and its students: I believe Bryan is special because it encourages students to grow holistically in all aspects of life. Students don’t leave with just a book knowledge of their major but hopefully with an accurate understanding of how their faith will intersect their world and bring about change.

What I love about Bryan: I love my friends and professors. I have been served so much by teachers like Dr. Davis and Dr. Turner who have poured in me. And recently I have been getting mentored by a senior guy and I just have so many meaningful friendships. I just love it.
