Bryan College is excited to bring author Eric Metaxas from Dallas, TX, in a live simulcast on September 17 in Rudd Auditorium. Metaxas will speak on “7 Men and the Secret of Their Greatness,” his new book published this past April.
By highlighting the lives of seven inspirational leaders—George Washington, William Wilberforce, Eric Liddell, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Jackie Robinson, Pope John Paul II, and Chuck Colson—“7 Men” explores what it means to be truly “great.”
Eric Metaxas is a New York Times best-selling author and has written more than 30 books, including #1 bestseller “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy” and the popular “Amazing Grace,” the companion to the 2006 film of the same name. He has been featured several times on CNN, Fox News, and NPR, in addition to serving as keynote speaker at the 2012 National Prayer Breakfast and being awarded the 2011 Canterbury Medal by the Becket Fund for Religious Freedom. Metaxas also co-hosts the BreakPoint radio program, which has a listener base of approximately 8 million.
This free event (no tickets required) will begin at 7 p.m. with a concert by David Benedict’s Acoustic Trio, made up of one senior and two alumni of Bryan. After the concert there will be a giveaway of five copies of “7 Men” and a brief talk on Bryan College’s action in the war against modern slavery.
“We are delighted to offer access to such high tier speakers as Eric Metaxas to our community,” said Ben Norquist, Bryan’s director of faith and mission. “In a day in which we idolize celebrities and entertainers, Eric Metaxas has written a book that elevates men of character, bravery, and faith.”
Metaxas’ live broadcast is set to begin at 8 p.m. Bryan welcomes members from the community to attend this year’s event. Dayton’s La-Z-Boy plant and local churches Stuart Heights Baptist Church (Soddy Daisy) and Calvary Chapel (Chattanooga) are event sponsors. “We welcome Bryan students and employees, and we welcome the surrounding community to the event,” said Norquist. The simulcast “will prove to be a cornerstone event for the year.”
