Franz Liszt, a 19th century music superstar whose compositions continue to thrill audiences today, will be honored with a 200th Birthday Celebration concert Sept. 23, presented by the Bryan College Music Department.
“Liszt was a flamboyant virtuoso pianist who wowed audiences like a modern-day rock star,” Bryan music professor Dr. Sigrid Luther said. “This concert will highlight some of his music for piano, voice and other instruments, and will be followed by a birthday party with cake.”
Piano solos will be performed by faculty members Dr. Luther and Jason DuRoy and by students Jarod Soltis and Michelle Molzahn, and Lee University student Matthew Wilkinson. Vocal selections will be presented by the Bryan Chorale and Chamber Singers under the direction of Dr. David Luther, and soloists Matt Albin and Kelly Miller. Violinist Miroslav Hristov, a member of the University of Tennessee music faculty who has performed internationally as a soloist, chamber musician, and conductor, also will perform, accompanied by Mr. Duroy.
