The smell of hamburgers grilling wafted across the Triangle Tuesday, signaling the grand opening of the Patio Grille.
Food Service Director A. J. Caudill signals that an order is ready
as the Patio Grille opened for business Tuesday. Food Services Director A. J. Caudill said he was pleased that with very little in the way of promotion or announcement, about 75 students, faculty, and staff chose to enjoy lunch on the new Latimer Student Center patio. The menu was simple; hamburgers with all the trimmings. But, he added, a second option will be available regularly: chicken breast sandwich as well as brats or beef dogs will be joining the rotation.
“We plan to be open for three or four meals a week, lunch or dinner, weather permitting,” he said.
The patio was added to the northeast corner of the student center this summer, to allow the Pioneer College Caterers’ staff to provide this new opportunity. Conveniently located near the residence halls and the year-old SubZone on the student center’s second floor, the patio offers outdoor seating.
“Students seemed excited about this,” Mr. Caudill said. “The crowd never spilled out onto the lawn, but it seemed the tables were full during the whole lunch rush.”
He said there is no set schedule for the cookouts, but students should be alert to signs around campus, as well as the Patio Grille flag flying to show that the grille is open.
