Aug. 28, 2014 — Over the past week life has been breathed into the Bryan College campus as new and returning students flooded back, once again filling the dorms, the student center, and the halls of Mercer with conversation, laughter, and spirits ready to start a new academic adventure.
Saturday, August 23, freshmen and new transfers moved in, surrounded by throngs of student leaders rushing to help them settle in. That afternoon into the rest of the weekend, Orientation Group Leaders, Resident Assistants, members of SGA, and so many more ushered the newcomers into life at Bryan.
Throughout this week registration, yearbook photos, preparing for classes, and getting into the rhythm of campus life have been foremost on the minds of students, as well as the faculty and staff who have been eagerly awaiting their arrival.
Yesterday, August 27, marked the beginning of the first week of classes for the 2014-2015 school year. Interim Vice President of Academics Kevin Clauson remarked that the “several new highly qualified faculty members, as well as all of our great returning faculty” are “enthusiastic about mentoring students” this year. He spoke for all the faculty and staff when he added that in this new semester they have rededicated themselves “to seeking the Lord and following His Word as we engage in our academic endeavors” – to loving the Lord above all else and taking an active role in the academic and spiritual lives of the students in their care.
Wednesday’s chapel program, “Surrender: Living out the Death of Jesus,” led by Dr. Robby Gallaty (Senior Pastor, Brainerd Baptist Church), launched this semester’s Spiritual Life Conference – “Gospel Life.” Rev. Randy Thomas (Silverdale Baptist Church) and Rev. Kevin Smith (New City Fellowship) are giving the next inspiring and challenging installments in the conference today and tomorrow, “Resurrection: Living out the Life of Jesus” and “Christ in You, the Hope of Glory,” respectively.
