December 19, 2016

dsc_0078December 19, 2016 – Hundreds of friends and family members gathered in Rudd Auditorium on Dec. 16 to watch as 105 students became Bryan College graduates.

“Mid-year graduations, just days away from Christmas, are always filled with excitement for all of our deserving graduates,” said Dr. Stephen Livesay, President of Bryan College. “I pray these graduates will live out our, and now their, mission as servants of Christ making a difference in their world. Congratulations to all!”

The ceremony also featured inspirational speeches and music from faculty as they celebrated the students’ milestone. Sabrena Smedley, broker/owner of Sabrena Realty Associates and a Bryan College alumna, served as the featured commencement speaker.

“As graduates of Bryan College, I challenge you to remember our motto and keep ‘Christ Above All’ in everything you do,” Smedley said.

Smedley was named the 2012 Realtor of the Year by the Greater Chattanooga Association of Realtors and currently serves as a board member for the Greater Association of Realtors. In addition to serving on the local and state governmental affairs committees, Smedley was also elected to serve as Hamilton County Commissioner for District 7 in 2014.

In total, 27 master’s, 75 bachelor’s, and three associate’s degrees were awarded in six areas of study. Eighty-four of the students were enrolled in Bryan’s Adult and Graduate Studies program (AGS), while 21 of the students were enrolled in on-campus programs.

Juliet Spiekerman Jones received the Highest Scholastic Record award, an honor that goes to the senior who achieves the highest GPA with at least 112 completed semester hours.

Josué Fernández Hernández and Katherine Denise Frazier were named recipients of the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges award. Candidates for this honor demonstrate academic ability, motivation, and commitment that indicates “potential for future achievement.”

In closing, Paulakay Hall ‘84, Alumni Director, asked the graduates to stay connected with Bryan and use their education to further make a difference in today’s world.
