Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature
Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature is a forum for the top echelon of campus leaders and political science students to exchange ideas and express their opinions on state, federal and local issues. TISL's General Assembly, which first convened in 1966, meets in the legislative chambers of the State Capitol each November. For the four days of the General Assembly, delegates from colleges across Tennessee convene in the State Capitol. They use the chambers of the Tennessee General Assembly to introduce, debate, and vote on bills that could affect the future of the state and of the nation.
The Appellate Moot Court Collegiate Challenge occurs during the same time as the General Assembly. Legal teams from Tennessee colleges come to argue appellate cases with their peers. These cases take place within the State Supreme Court.

For the first time in Bryan’s history, a TISL chapter has been formed on campus. Bryan sent teams of delegates to both the General Assembly and Moot Court Challenge, November 17-20, 2011 (see pre-event story). In preparation for the event, we conducted weekly meetings, practicing parliamentary and courtroom procedures and preparing bills and legal briefs. Also, we seek to form partnerships with the film and journalism departments in order to create opportunity for multiple departments to participate within the event through the media venues that TISL promotes, such as filming the sessions, reporting verdicts or decisions, and writing articles about the events.
