Professional Activities

Was a college and university business administrator for eleven years, culminating as Acting VP for Business, Western Carolina University, at which point he resigned to engage in doctoral study.  Subsequent to that he worked as a psychotherapist for many years. During this time he also taught graduate courses part-time (e.g., Michigan State University, Aquinas Institute of Religious Studies) and conducted several hundred workshops on human relations topics relevant to business, education, and personal life skills.  He is co-author of two human relations texts published by major publishers, and 15 books on topics related to interpersonal communication and other life issues (such as anger, forgiveness, perfectionism, jealousy, assertiveness, and paraprofessional counseling).  His books have been published in eight countries.  With his wife, Dr. Diana Walters, a gerontologist, he develops materials and strategies through which persons with dementia can retain and experience vivid, meaningful spiritual faith.  This can be seen at www.alzheimersministry.org
