A Legacy of Generosity at Bryan College Spans Generations
Paul Stone and Drema Rowsey’s story began on a volleyball court at Bryan College, where the freshman class was playing as the soccer team looked on. Drema was not particularly interested when Paul approached her that day. A few years later, however, shortly after Paul graduated in 1970, the two were married—beginning a family legacy deeply rooted in Bryan College.
Both Paul and Drema were introduced to Bryan through siblings who attended before them. Paul’s opportunity to enroll was made possible through the generosity of the Huston family, namesakes of Huston Hall. That single scholarship opened the door for Paul to receive a Christ-centered education—an opportunity that would ultimately shape generations of his family.
While at Bryan, the Stones were profoundly influenced by Dr. Irving Jensen’s Bible classes. Through his teaching, Paul and Drema were introduced to inductive Bible study, an approach to Scripture that has guided their faith throughout their lives.
Years later, Paul and Drema encouraged their own children to consider Bryan College—not only for its academics, but for the faith-filled community that had shaped their own experience. Although daughters Ginger and Cherstin initially planned to attend other institutions, both ultimately chose Bryan. Their daughter Tracy, however, knew early on that Bryan was where she wanted to be. During her junior year, she met her future husband on campus.
Tracy recalls the personal care shown by faculty and staff during her time as a student. Professors regularly invited students into their homes for Sunday lunches and weekend barbecues, fostering meaningful relationships beyond the classroom. She also remembers being greeted by name by then-President Bill Brown, an interaction that left a lasting impression.
Today, Tracy continues the family’s Bryan legacy as a member of the Admissions team, helping prospective students and families explore a Christ-centered college education. While she and her husband never insisted that their own children attend Bryan, they encouraged them to evaluate each institution’s commitment to Christian faith. In the end, all three chose Bryan College.
The Stone-Davidson family’s story traces back to a single act of generosity more than fifty years ago—a scholarship that made it possible for Paul Stone to attend Bryan College. That gift has echoed across generations, shaping lives, strengthening faith, and advancing Bryan’s mission to educate students to become servants of Christ.
As Bryan College continues to stand firm in its commitment to biblical truth, stories like the Stones’ serve as a reminder of the lasting impact of generosity and the enduring influence of a Christ-centered education.
