Biography

Jud Davis was born in Atlanta, Georgia. He grew up in the spiritual wilderness between neo-orthodoxy and legalism. At 18, Jud experienced God’s grace in conversion and found the happy home of Evangelicalism as it expressed historic Christian orthodoxy. At the University of Georgia, he found fellowship with a wonderful campus organization, WDA (Worldwide Discipleship Association), and met Christians who loved God with a holiness of life and a rigorous engagement of the mind, both born out of a joy for Christ. It was at Georgia where he started a lifelong love of Greek and Hebrew and felt God’s call into the ministry. He pursued that call by majoring in classical Greek with studies in Latin and Hebrew. In 1985, he met and then married Lynn Colcord with whom he has 5 children and now 1 grandchild. The couple moved to Chicago to study at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. It was at TEDS that Jud Davis started his teaching career as a graduate student teaching two years of Intro to Greek. Jud pursued doctoral studies at the University of Sheffield in England. There he was able, as a post-graduate student, to tutor Intro to Hebrew under Prof. Philip Davies. He has also taught Hebrew at Reformed Theological Seminary in Atlanta, and Birmingham Theological Seminary. After 9 years of pastoral ministry, Dr. Davis accepted the position of Professor of Greek at Bryan College. He served as Chair of Christian Studies for over 10 years and now is delighted to teach Greek and Hebrew as well as the Gen Ed classes which all students take: Old Testament Literature and Interpretation and its NT counterpart, New Testament Literature and Interpretation. It is Dr. Davis’s delight to help students see the metanarrative elegance of the Bible and to see how that elegance calls a Christian to a life of love for Christ.
