Dates: July 10-16, 2022

Details: The Bryan College Summer Institute is a week-long summer immersion program for high school students (ages 14-18). We are committed to providing each student with a meaningful experience that will help each student develop a holistic view of discipleship and the habits needed to live a Christ-centered life. Pricing includes college credit, room & board, and all activities except the whitewater rafting trip.
Register by June 30th for the 2022 Summer Session. 

Tracks (Listed below): Choose from 10 tracks, including Creative Writing, Criminal Justice, Mathematics, Engineering & 3D Design, Nursing, Theater, Photography, Music, Contemporary Journalism, and Martial Arts.

Cost: $695 — Our Early Bird Special of $625 ends April 29th.

Creative Writing
  • Gain insights into the process of creative writing from a working author
  • Receive personal encouragement and feedback on your creative writing from a Bryan College English professor
  • Learn new approaches to unlocking your creative potential as a writer
  • Study exemplary models of creative writing as sources of inspiration
  • Spend time every day working on new pieces of your own creative writing
  • Develop a foundation for understanding how creative writing can glorify God

Criminal Justice
  • Gain an understanding of the different components of the criminal justice system, including discussion of crime scene investigation, forensics, patrol, and security;
  • Explore the biblical foundations of law and justice;
  • Discuss the dynamic tensions between police and the communities they serve;
  • Practice some of the techniques used in arrests (handcuffing, search, etc.) and other law enforcement procedures;
  • Practice crime scene investigation techniques in one of our simulated crime scenes.

Mathematics
  • Gain insight into the beauty, order, and usefulness of mathematics in our world and as Christians.
  • Create conjectures, as well as construct arguments and experiments to prove or disprove conjectures.
  • Ask critical questions about the steps and results of experiments.
  • Exercise problem-solving skills by developing strategies to win mathematical games.
  • Use technology as a mathematical tool.

  • Learning about engineering design and 3D Printing through hands-on activities
  • Learn about engineering fields and design
  • Observe aquatic specimens in nature
  • Develop conceptual designs of a fishing lure
  • Utilize technology to design and 3D print projects
  • Create and test a fishing lure design
  • Consider how engineering can further the gospel globally

  • Learn & practice some basic nursing skills like giving shots and changing dressings
  • Observe a simulated birth
  • Obtain Basic CPR certification
  • Interact with local nurses
  • Learn about God's heart for the care of other persons through the profession of nursing

  • Study various aspects of theatre production (including stagecraft, scenic painting, script analysis, and acting workshops)
  • Participate and receive feedback on acting technique and audition prep in monologue masterclass sessions
  • Develop a personal philosophy as Christian artists and performers

Photography: Basics and Beyond
  • Develop a personal philosophy as a Christian artistic photographer;
  • Study various aspects of Photography;
  • Learn the basic manual controls and composition skills of Photography;
  • Participate and receive feedback on technique, composition, and meaning in daily Masterclass sessions; 
  • Strengthen their God-given Aesthetic Capacity and Visual Literacy; and
  • Create a portfolio of their best photographs.

  • Discuss the relationship between performing arts and the Christian faith;
  • Develop an understanding of vocal techniques in both Classical and Contemporary Commercial Music styles;
  • Participate and receive feedback on technique and musicianship in daily Masterclass sessions; 
  • Apply their learning in instrumental and worship contexts

  • Learn foundational fundamentals of journalism
  • Study basic "technological determinism" 
  • Discuss the role of media in culture today
  • Integrate concepts of faith and media considering today's media landscape
  • Produce a human-interest news piece based on group interviews

  • Engage in an understanding of Christianity and martial arts that encourages students to be peacemakers in the world (Rom. 12:18);
  • Learn the basics of key martial arts techniques for self-defense and defense of others;
  • Begin a journey of mental, physical, and spiritual discipline;
  • Be trained by black belts in the Isshin-Ryu karate system.

Our Summer Institute is specifically designed to equip students with biblical practices that can be adopted into the normal aspects of their lives at home and school; creating a foundation for long-term discipleship to Jesus.

Nick Pacurari was appointed Executive Director of Student Life in 2021. Nick earned a B.A. in Christian Ministry from Bryan in 2011 and his M.A. in Christian Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 2014. Currently, Nick is pursuing his Doctorate in Educational Leadership.
