Summer Institute: Contemporary Journalism

During this week you will have the chance to learn the journalism fundamentals from a Christian perspective with the award-winning former journalist and current Communication, Media & Culture department chair at Bryan. You will wrestle with media realities by discussing the positives and negatives of social media’s (and all media’s) effects on culture. You will dig deeper and see the heart beyond the headlines when you do some reporting yourself through a culminatory reporting project. 

In the Contemporary Journalism Track at the Bryan College Summer Institute, you will:

  • Learn foundational fundamentals of journalism
  • Study basic "technological determinism" 
  • Discuss the role of media in culture today
  • Integrate concepts of faith and media considering today's media landscape
  • Produce a human-interest news piece based on group interviews
