Disability Services at Bryan College equips students with disabilities, with the academic accommodations or other specialized services they may need.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities and requires accommodations for them in public, professional, and school life. A disability is an impairment that may be physical, mental, sensory, emotional, or developmental. While some disabilities are noticeable, others are “invisible” – you can’t tell by looking at someone that he or she has a disability. Disabilities can cause challenges in school, work, and personal life, but accommodations can help you overcome them.
Common disability accommodations include:
Download the Application for Accommodations and fill out your information. This includes personal information, a description of your disability, and a list of the accommodations you request.
You should also attach a letter from your physician or counselor documenting your disability and his or her recommendations for your accommodations. Documentation should be current, preferably within the last three years (older documentation may be accepted for conditions that are permanent).
Submit your application and documentation to the Coordinator via email, mail, or fax. You may also request that your physician send your documentation from his or her office.
The Coordinator will create a Syllabus Addendum. This document describes the accommodations you will receive in your classes. Review this carefully to ensure that it is correct and complete.
It is the student’s responsibility to be proactive in seeking accommodations for each class before the start dates. You will work with the ADA Coordinator to share Syllabus Addendum information with each of your instructors before the class starts or on the first day of class. Once your instructor approves the accommodations, the syllabus addendum is an agreement for that class.

The policy for Bryan College is to abide by the laws applicable to disability services, but when a student feels his rights have been violated by unfair treatment, this grievance procedure has been developed in order to solve issues internally. Open communication between the student and applicable staff, such as the ADA Coordinator, is encouraged and may be able to resolve issues before a grievance may be filed. However, if a student feels uncomfortable with this communication and/or the student feels that the situation is not improving, a grievance may be filed. In that case, the student would do the following:
Submit the form to the ADA Coordinator, Dr. Hannah Schultz. Submit your application and documentation to the Coordinator via email, mail, or fax. The student has 30 days to submit the form from the date of the perceived violation. Alternative means of reporting (like personal interviews) will be available upon request.
The ADA Officer and the ADA Compliance Committee will do an investigation. The ADA Coordinator would recuse herself/himself from the investigation and the determination discussion.
A written determination will be given by email to the student within one week regarding the outcome of the grievance. The written determination will offer the findings of the ADA Committee and potential solutions to the perceived problem.
The student will have 5 days to respond to the determination in writing.
If the student feels that further appeals and grievances are needed due to his lack of satisfaction regarding the situation, he may file these in writing through the hierarchy of the institution. The next step in that hierarchy would be the Vice President of Academics, Dr. Dave Calland. The student would have one week to contact Dr. Callland to start this secondary grievance process.
After completing this process, if the student still would like to pursue further action when/if the student finds the resolutions from the above college authorities to be unsatisfactory, the ADA Officer will inform the student of his/her right to file a complaint with the appropriate governmental agencies, to seek private mediation, and/or to file a lawsuit.
