Position Summary
The Digital Designer, Photographer position operates within the Marketing and Communications department. This role involves creating, managing, and producing digital design solutions for various purposes such as websites, email templates, social media graphics, brand campaigns, and photography.
The Digital Designer, Photographer is responsible for developing best practices in online communication, including email marketing, digital advertising procedures, branded digital templates, and implementing these initiatives across departments. The position also involves providing training for staff or departments as necessary.
Additionally, the Digital Designer, Photographer is accountable for coordinating and photographing the following: photo shoots, capturing headshots for students, faculty, and staff, as well as engaging in photojournalism of campus events, news, and promotional activities. They adhere to branding styles and strategies for photography, print, the website, and social media.
Furthermore, they manage efforts to keep online images branded and up-to-date and collaborate with others to maintain photography equipment. Training on-camera use and photography details may be provided to other departments and Marketing employees, and they assist in the lending and return of equipment with external departments. The position may also participate in videography projects as needed.
Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications
Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, design, photography, advertising, or communication
Experience Required
- Knowledge in Adobe Creative Suite Programs and Email Marketing Programs
- Photography experience and knowledge of photo editing
- Previous experience in communication or similar role
- Knowledge of traditional and digital marketing content marketing, and social media marketing
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills
- Proficiency in full Microsoft Office suite, especially with Excel and PowerPoint
Duties
- Digital Design & Development
- Write and/or coordinate content, and set up for academic and departmental digital efforts including emails, e-newsletters, websites, virtual tour, digital advertising, and other media for online and promotional purposes
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications for branding, marketing strategy, and overall media creation
- Assist Marketing with analyzing & communicating digital objectives, including providing email and other digital templates
- Coordinate the branding, review, and approval of campaigns with outside digital vendors
- Ensures Brand Consistency across all Social Media Platforms
- Meet with departments as needed to monitor digital communication and help implement branded templates, technology, and best practices
- Manage and update the advanced ticketing system structure for the Marketing & Communications Department
- Test, suggest & designs visual concepts for updating templates, and new digital ideas by using graphic design tools like the Adobe Creative Suite and other programs
- Photography
- Coordinate, photograph, and archive images and headshots for students, faculty, and staff, as well as the photojournalism of campus events, news, and promotion.
- Collaborate with the Marketing Department on the photo style and strategy for print, the website, and social media
- Managing and coordinating efforts to keep online images up-to-date and branded
- Collaborate with other photographers on the upkeep and maintenance of photography equipment, including keeping a master list of all items and plans for new equipment
- Train other departments, interns and Marketing employees on camera use and photography details, as needed.
- Coordinate and monitor the lending and return of equipment with outside departments.
- Participates in videography projects as needed
- Other Responsibilities
- Support the Director in evaluating and establishing the marketing plan and strategy by assembling and analyzing sales forecasts, setting objectives, planning and organizing promotional presentations, and updating calendars
- Other duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate new position requests for student workers each semester in the Marketing Department. Interview and suggest new hires.
- Train GAs and student workers on photography basics, design, and digital programs as needed.
- Work with GAs and student workers to coordinate and complete emails, design projects, and other assigned tickets, as needed.
