Laboratory Manager - Vogel School of Engineering

SUMMARY

The Vogel School of Engineering at Bryan College is seeking to fill the position of Engineering Laboratory Technician/Manager. This position is integral to the accreditation and success of the new engineering program at Bryan and will require a self-starter who can perform the following:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Shepherd students both technically and spiritually in accordance with Bryan College beliefs
  • Participate in School of Engineering leadership activities such as staff meetings, mission outreach activities and development of policies and procedures
  • Assist faculty in the design and fabrication of engineering lab equipment and apparatus
  • Assist faculty in specifying, purchasing, assembling, and operating new equipment
  • Maintain a lab asset information system
  • Develop and administer a lab safety program
  • Supervise student lab activities and projects
  • Assist faculty in design and set up classroom laboratory for instructional purposes
  • Serve as instructor for certain lab modules and classes, as needed
  • Develop an annual budget

 

Successful candidates should:

  • Be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Have familiarity with welding steel and aluminum and using oxygen-acetylene torches
  • Have familiarity with using metal working equipment such as lathes, drill presses, etc
  • Have wood-working experience
  • Be able to perform electrical and electronics tasks
  • Experience fabricating wood and metal structures and machines
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Experience and training equivalent to the following are preferred:

  • BS in engineering or related field
  • Lab management experience
  • Mechanical experience
  • 10 years teaching experience working with students in a lab environment
