This month, the Bryan College Hilltop Players open their 2013-2014 season with “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown,” with performances running Oct. 29 through Nov. 2 at 7:30pm in Brock Hall.
Based on the Charles Schulz comic strip “Peanuts,” this play combines the strip’s whimsical humor with stunning jazz numbers and an authentically cartoonesque set. The play has been described as “a day made up of little moments picked from all the days of Charlie Brown — from Valentine’s Day to the baseball season, from wild optimism to utter despair — all mixed in with the lives of his friends (both human and non-human) and strung together on the string of a single day, from bright uncertain morning to hopeful starlit evening.”
Cast members include junior Jay Carpenter as Charlie Brown, senior Emily Moon as Sally, senior Alexis Landry as Lucy, sophomore Drew Morrison as Schroeder, junior Justin Jones as Linus, freshman Shelby Metts as Peppermint Patty, and senior Luke Fox as Snoopy.
Jay Carpenter remarks that nostalgic element is what makes this play such a rewarding experience to perform, as Charlie Brown is “something I’ve grown up watching with family.” He looks forward to the audience “reliving the memories” of a timeless classic. Senior Theatre major Luke Fox also encourages the community to come out and enjoy a “family-friendly and entertaining show that will remind you of your childhood.”
Tickets are $6 for BC community, $8 for non-BC students, and $10 for adults, and they are available for purchase daily at the box office in Rudd Auditorium room 114, or through the Lions Pride Campus Store at 423.775.7271.
