Biography
Dr. Jamie Summerville joined the Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at Bryan College in 2018 and currently serves as the chair of the department. He received his undergraduate degree in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science from Murray State University in 1988, and his Master’s degree in Mathematics from Murray State University in 1990. While completing his degrees at Murray State, he worked for about five years as a computer operator for the university. Dr. Summerville completed his Ph.D. in mathematics at The University of Mississippi in 1997. Previous to Bryan College, Dr. Summerville taught full-time at Tennessee Technological University, Morehead State University in Kentucky, Mid-Continent University in Kentucky, and Hannibal-LaGrange University in Missouri. He has served as the chair of a department at three schools and for nine years he was the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Mid-Continent University. Dr. Summerville has taught many levels of mathematics from Algebra II at a high school to graduate courses in the history of mathematics. His favorite course to teach is a class with students who enjoy learning.
