Biography
Laurie Gates grew up in Southern California, the daughter of a seminary professor/pastor and a librarian. She majored in mathematics at Trinity Christian College in Illinois, and met her husband (Dr. Daniel Gates, also a Bryan professor) while working at the Grand Canyon with A Christian Ministry in the National Parks during college. After another college summer at Sequoia National Park, she married Daniel in 2001 and pursued a Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics at Florida Institute of Technology. Two kids later, she achieved her Doctorate of Education in Higher and Postsecondary Education. She taught college mathematics online for twenty years while raising her children, and is now so happy to be a professor at Bryan since her kids are grown. She loves the students and community at Bryan and is thankful to get to be a part of her students’ lives.
