Biography
Dr. Nathan Massey was raised just outside of Birmingham, AL. He attended Auburn University, where he studied History. Driven by a desire for a meaningful and impactful job, he attended UAB (Birmingham), completed an MAE, and earned state certification in Secondary Social Sciences. Over the coming years, he taught high school and middle school history and math at various Title I schools, alongside coaching roles.
Nathan met his wife (Megan) at church while she was completing medical school in Birmingham. The next eight years of their marriage took them from Johnson City, TN, to Okinawa, Japan, to Jacksonville, NC, where Megan completed medical training and spent four years on active duty in the US Navy.
During this adventurous time, Nathan wrestled with a call to more formal theological education and how his experience as a teacher might translate to “equip the saints for the work of ministry” (Eph 4:12). Over the coming years, he served Tri-Cities Baptist Church (Gray, TN) in Global Outreach, followed by pastor/elder roles at Pillar Church of Okinawa and Pillar Church of Jacksonville (NC). Along the way, Nathan and Megan added three kiddos and simplified life through settling down in the Chattanooga area. His Savior, Jesus, his family, and the occasional historical biography are his greatest joys.
Nathan continues to enjoy exploring and writing in his academic areas of interest, including Christian education, memory strategies, and leadership development in the local church. He is published in the Christian Education Journal and the Journal of Biblical Perspectives in
Leadership.
