Biography

Tom Halsall is in his second season as Head Coach of the Lady Lions. Halsall returned to Bryan after a successful spell as the Graduate Assistant for the University of North Alabama women’s soccer program. Tom is no stranger to Bryan as he was the former assistant coach for the women’s soccer team in the fall of 2019. Halsall also helped with the men’s soccer program too primarily with the goalkeepers.

Before coming to the United States from the United Kingdom in the fall of 2012, Halsall was part of Premier League Club Manchester City as a goalkeeper from the ages of 12 to 18. Competing in the Youth Cup and Youth Champions League in 2011, Halsall gained valuable experience and was then part of the first-team squad for the 2011/2012 Premier Winning Season. Halsall then had a two-month loan spell at Championship side Derby County, before making the decision to move to America to play collegiate soccer and to earn a degree.

Halsall then joined Lee University and was a four-year starter from 2012-2016. He was an NCCAA All-American and a member of the NCCAA National Championship team in 2014 after posting a 0.80 goals-against average in 14 games before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

He won numerous accolades during his career at Lee including, NAIA National Defensive Player of the Week in 2012, MVP of the Lee Olive Garden Tournament in 2015, team’s best defensive player in 2013, second-team all-region in 2013 and 2015, Gulf South Conference Defender of the Week for September, 2015, and 2015 All-GSC.

Halsall joined Erskine College in South Carolina as the Men’s Assistant Coach in August 2016 and helped lead them to a top-four finish in conference play that year. After Erskine, Halsall joined Shorter University in Rome, Ga., in July 2017 as the men’s and women’s soccer graduate assistant. After Shorter, Halsall joined the Florida Elite Soccer Academy in Jacksonville, Fla., in May 2019 and was the Director of Goalkeeping for the entire club.

During the summer periods, Halsall played four seasons at NPSL side Chattanooga FC and one season at Asheville SC.

Halsall has his FA Level 1 Outfield Coaching and Goalkeeping License as well as an NSCAA D License.

Halsall resides in Athens, TN with his wife Arielle whom he met whilst coaching at Bryan back in 2019. He has a bachelor’s degree from Lee University in Physical Education, a Masters’s Degree in Business Management from Shorter University, and a Second Masters Degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Alabama.

I am really excited and happy to be a part of the Bryan Family. It is our duty to create a culture that shows and emulates Christ through all that we do both in and out the classroom and field of play.
