Career Services office offers aid to alumni

The typical client for Bryan’s Career Services office may be a senior looking for his or her first job or an underclassman looking for an internship, but Director Marica Merck is eager for alumni to call her as well.
 
Two resources are particularly appropriate for alumni, she said. NACE-Link, an on-line link to some 4 million job opportunities in the U.S. and abroad. “If an alumnus is looking for a job change, this gives the ability to search for openings anywhere in the country and in foreign countries,” she said.
 
FOCUS 2 is an online career assessment tool that can be particularly helpful for an alum considering a career change. “It allows you to look at strengths, values, skills, and interests and narrow the scope of fields in which to look,” Mrs. Merck said. “It helps answer the question, ‘What should I do?’”
 
While these career tools may be accessed on line, Mrs. Merck also is available to help alumni with resume development and developing strategies for a job search or an interview. Together with these free services, she said the center is planning a career fair at Bryan on Jan. 25, 2012, and in Chattanooga in the spring. Information will be posted at facebook.com/bryancareerservices.
 
At the same time, she is looking for help from alumni. “I’m interested in hearing from alumni who have job openings or internships available for our students, or who would like to be speakers at a Bryan Connect,” an informal luncheon with select Bryan students interested in a particular topic.
