Members of the Bryan community donated 44 pints of blood Thursday, Sept. 13, when Blood Assurance of Chattanooga brought its Donosaurs collection bus to campus.

Students give -- or wait to give -- during Thursday's blood drive.

Blood Assurance is the sole provider of blood and blood products to more than 50 hospitals and health care providers in the Chattanooga area, a spokesman said. The organization needs some 400 pints of blood per day to meet the area demand.

Their target for a drive such as the one at Bryan is 40 pints. In addition to the donations, four other individuals offered to donate but were refused for a variety of reasons.

Dean of Community Life Bruce Morgan said blood drives are held twice each semester. “We space them at least eight weeks apart because that’s the minimum time a person must wait between donations,” he said.
