Athletes have summer camp options

Area elementary and high school athletes will have the opportunity to polish their athletics skills while enjoying the fun of sports camp this summer, with camps sponsored by Bryan College coaches.
A soccer camp, with sessions for children in grades 1 to 4 (8:30 to 11 a.m.) and 5 to 8 (3 to 5:30 p.m.), will be held June 12 to 15 on the Bryan campus at the soccer field. Bryan’s men’s soccer coach Joey Johnson, assisted by other collegiate coaches and Bryan players, will lead the camp. Three volleyball camps in July will give players of all skill levels instruction in the finer points of the game. Bryan volleyball coach David Shumaker, with his assistant coach, Alison Williams, will hold a team camp July 8 to 12 for commuters; a residential ‘all skills’ camp July 15 – 19; and a high-potential mini camp July 19-21, which is by invitation or application only. Basketball players in grades kindergarten through 4 (9 a.m. to noon) and 5 to 8 (1 to 4:30 p.m.) will have their camp in Bryan’s Summers Gymnasium July 9 to 12. Coach Don Rekoske and his assistant coaches will offer instruction in basketball fundamentals as well as valuable life skills. Cross country runners ages 12 to 18 will have three camp sessions to choose from, all at Fort Bluff Camp on Dayton Mountain. Camps, directed by Bryan coach Rodney Stoker, are designed to enhance runners’ training and overall understanding of and approach to running.
