Honors Program Application Information

Admission Requirements

Qualified applicants must have completed a minimum of 15 credit hours at the college level, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, currently hold "freshmen" status, and understand that the Bryan College Honors Program is a three-year commitment. 

Transfer Students: If you are planning to transfer to Bryan College, and are interested in the Bryan College Honors Program, please contact us at honors@bryan.edu for more information.

Apply to the Honors Program

In order to complete your application dossier for the Bryan College Honors Program, please submit the following to the Bryan College Honors Committee by 5:00 p.m. on April 7, 2014:

1. A Completed Honors Application Form
In order to complete this online form, you will need the following:
  • Your Bryan ID and password (to login)
  • Your current and home (permanent) addresses
  • Your High School's contact information (phone and mailing address)
  • Your cumulative High School GPA
  • Your class rank
  • Your SAT or ACT score
  • The names and contact information for two references who are current Bryan College faculty with whom you have taken a course.  These references should be able to speak to your intention and ability to be part of an academic community.  
This online form will automatically go to the Honors Committee when you click "submit." Please complete the form by 5:00 p.m., April 7, 2014.
 
2. An Application Letter

Address a letter (1 page maximum) to the Honors Committee, outlining your qualifications, strengths, and potential contributions to the Bryan College Honors Program, as well as your understanding of what it means to be part of a community of learners at a Christian liberal arts college. We are interested in learning about what motivates you and what unique contributions you might make to our community.

Please submit to honors@bryan.edu by 5:00 p.m., April 7, 2014.

3. An Essay

Write an essay (750 words maximum) addressing the following:

If you could design your own academic experience, what would it look like? What areas of study would be included and why? How would the classes be formatted?
 
Tips when thinking about and writing your essay:
  • Edit and proofread your essay before you submit it to the Bryan College Honors Committee.  The committee uses a holistic application review process--your thought processes and writing ability are no less important than your grades and test scores.
  • Remember your audience.  The people evaluating your application are active members of the Bryan College community; they may not have the same political or theological beliefs you do.  This is acceptable and desired in the academic world.  Consider this as your frame of reference when planning your essay.
  • Finally, have fun! This is your opportunity to introduce yourself to us. Let us see who you are and what you can do.  Be creative!

Honors Interview -- Weeks of April 14 and 21, 2014

During the weeks of April 14 and 21, we will invite qualified students who have submitted a completed honors dossier to campus for interviews, at which time you will have opportunities to meet with the faculty, current Honors Students, and staff to learn more about the Bryan College Honors Program. Participating in the interview will allow us to learn more about you and your academic goals.

Notification -- May 2, 2014

You will be notified by May 2, 2014, about the status of your application to the Honors Program.
