Hilltop Players set 'Annie Get Your Gun'
April 01, 2009
“Annie Get Your Gun,” Irving Berlin’s greatest box-office hit with some of his most enduring melodies, will come to life on the Bryan College stage April 16-18, presented by the Hilltop Players.
Director Bernie Belisle said the production is from the 1999 Broadway revival of the musical, which premiered May 16, 1946, and ran for 1,146 performances. The play was made into a movie in 1950, and revived on Broadway in 1966 as well.
“Annie Get Your Gun” tells the story of Annie Oakley, the backwoods sharpshooter star of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show, and Frank Blair, the star marksman of Pawnee Bill’s show, who meet and fall in love. The road to romance, however, is not smooth, and the couple’s competitive instincts create even more obstacles.
Perhaps the best-known song from the musical is “There’s no Business like Show Business,” which has become the unofficial anthem of American theatre. Other memorable tunes include “The Girl that I Marry,” “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better” and “It’s Wonderful.”
Playing leading roles in the Hilltop Players’ production are Ethan Hargraves of Harrison, Tenn., as Frank Butler; Alicia Schulze of Morganton, N.C., as Annie; Stephen McGee of Millbrook, Ala., as Tommy; Emily White of Metamora, Mich., as Winnie; Eve Hildebrandt of Red Bank, Tenn., as Dolly;– Cameron Lane of Dayton, Tenn., as Wilson; Ben Cunningham of Jacksonville, Ala., as Charlie; Aaron Mowery of Claude, Texas, as Buffalo Bill; and Justin Winters of Rock Spring, Ga., as Sitting Bull.
“Annie Get Your Gun" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. nightly in Rudd Auditorium. Tickets may be reserved by calling the box office at 423.775.7500; visiting the box office in Rudd 114, Mon - Fri, 11:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; or purchasing online at www.bryan.edu/agyg.
