Bryan College enthusiastically announces the addition of fast-pitch softball and men’s and women’s golf to its athletic program for the 2010-2011 school year. Bryan had a slow-pitch softball program in the 1980s but never has had golf. Both teams will compete in the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

Dr. Sandy Zensen, athletic director, said, “We’re excited about adding more spring sports; and of course both softball and golf include fall participation. It’s part of the plan to grow our athletic program, and I think it’s a great plan. Softball is a very important sport in this area, and we hope we can keep some of the girls locally at home.”

Zensen also said that the school plans to hire a full-time softball coach during the 2009-10 school year and give that person a chance to “lay a foundation” with recruits. One coach likely will handle both golf teams, he said, and that will be a part-time position.
