History of Community Service Day at Bryan College
The all-college service day is an expression of our commitment to our community — we want to be a valued neighbor in Rhea County, and we want to be known for our Christ-like love. The service day was moved from January because we did not want organizations that would be closed for MLK Day to open up just for us and send in their personnel who would otherwise be with their families on the holiday. Additionally, changes in our academic calendar have our spring semester beginning after MLK day in some cases. Biblically speaking, service is an expression of true worship; therefore, we have combined our day of prayer and day of service, including strong elements of prayer leading up to and throughout our day in the community.
