Department of Music

Greetings from the Bryan College Music Department! We are excited about your interest in the music program and want to be of help in answering your questions.

 One common question many people ask is, "What can you do with a music major?" We love to answer, "Just look at our graduates!"

Many are teaching music on the primary and secondary levels (public and private schools) while others are serving in churches as ministers of music, children's choir directors, or worship leaders. Many are employed in the music industry (recording studio, arts management), and those with strong performance abilities are singing and playing all over the world. Still others have exciting careers outside the music field while finding wonderful opportunities to use their music to enrich their lives and others.

Of course, our students don't have to wait until graduation to do exciting things. Many have experienced playing or singing with a live orchestra (Beethoven's "Ninth") while others fulfill their internships at local radio/TV stations or with the Chattanooga Symphony. Also, our performing groups regularly visit different parts of the country and the world. Last May, the Bryan Chorale visted 6 countries on its European Mission Trip.  In December 2006, it presented Handel's "Messiah" with orchestra.  In March 2007, the Chorale will traveled up the East Coast on its annual tour.  In April, the Music and Theater departments will present a full production of Sondheim's musical "Into the Woods."

One of the best things about our major is that we offer many different options within the major so you can custom-design a program that meets your goals and abilities.
