8.7_Children and youth choirs hold auditions_1Aug. 18, 2014 — Area students in grades 4-12 are invited to audition for the Bryan College Community Children’s Choir (grades 4-8) or Youth Choir (grades 9-12) for the coming 2014-2015 academic year.

Children’s Choir auditions will take place Monday, August 25, at 4 p.m. in the chorale room of Rudd Auditorium. Youth Choir auditions are to be held Thursday, August 28, at 4:30 p.m. Students selected through the audition process will practice weekly and perform at a number of events throughout the 2014-2015 academic year.

Directors for Bryan’s community choirs are Ms. Angie Stumbo for the Children’s Choir and Mr. Randy Bright for the Youth Choir.

The Children’s Choir will rehearse on Mondays from 4:15 to 5 p.m., starting September 8. Choir members work on sight reading skills, vocal production, blend, and balance as they learn and memorize music for concerts. Their repertoire includes classical, spiritual, and traditional sacred music.

The Youth Choir will learn music in a variety of styles, developing musicianship in the context of ensemble performance. They will rehearse Wednesdays from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Both choirs have a $25/semester fee, and the Youth Choir has a one-time uniform fee of $10 for new members. Practices will be held in the chorale suite, room 109, on the lower level of Rudd Auditorium.

Stumbo said, “There’s such a wonderful energy in the enthusiasm of a child when singing, playing, dancing and performing. I am so blessed and fortunate to be a conductor of that energy, and I am thrilled to be able to have to opportunity to work with the youth of Rhea County in this choral program. Come be a part of the fun!”

Also looking forward to the new academic year, Bright said, “We are excited for another great year of music. Students will have wonderful opportunities to grow as musicians and make new friends within the choir. Invite your friends, and come out to audition for this great group!”
