Hilltop Players set 'Night Watch'
January 14, 2011
Is she crazy, or isn’t she?
The only way to tell is to watch “Night Watch,” a classic suspense thriller, in a dessert or dinner theatre presentation by Bryan’s Hilltop Players January 31 - February 5 in Brock Hall.
Jared Cole, who is directing the production, said “Night Watch” is the story of Elaine Wheeler, heiress to a great fortune, who thinks she witnesses a murder in a tenement behind her New York brownstone. “This sets into motion a series of events and confrontations as she struggles with whether she saw something or whether it was a figment of her imagination. She slowly degenerates to a sense of insanity or delusion,” Mr. Cole said.
This year the Hilltop Players have presented “The Oedipus Story,” a Greek tragedy, and “Scrooge! The Musical,” an adaptation of “A Christmas Carol,” and plan to produce Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” in the spring.
“The other plays we have done or will do are classics that people know well, but they are period pieces. We wanted to do something more modern, contemporary so we can have something visually different,” he said. “For a dessert theatre we were looking for either something funny or a murder mystery that gets the audience thinking they have to solve the mystery.”
“Night Watch” will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, except for a dinner theatre production on Friday, which will begin at 6:30 p.m.
