Theatre Intensive Camp

Theatre Intensive Camp

June 9-15, 2024

Theatre Intensive Camp is a week-long summer immersion program for high school students interested in and passionate about theatre! The students will be fully immersed in theatrical pursuits. They will experience a theatrical production process in real-time, explore various aspects of production work (scenic building, costumes, props, and lighting), and also be challenged to apply their faith to their artistic journey.

Theatre Intensive Camp will require students to have a high dedication to individual work outside of rehearsals; we have ONE WEEK to audition, cast, block, rehearse, polish, and perform a one-act production! This means that every student must be willing to put 100% into line memorization, production work, and being a team player— willing to collaborate with others. It takes a village to put on a show, and this experience is no exception!

Each day, we will have “Production Class,” where the students will work in their specific areas to help bring the production together in a meaningful way.

Important Information

We Value Safety. Our highest priority is keeping your students safe. There are several ways we seek to prioritize safety: the use of nametags, the buddy system, and the presence of Theatre Intensive Camp Staff. All individuals associated with the Theatre Intensive Camp will wear name tags to indicate they are a part of this program. We also utilize the buddy system: no student should ever be alone. Students are not allowed to be alone with a member of the opposite gender. If guys and girls are together, there must always be 3+ students in the group. Furthermore, guys and girls are not allowed to be in the opposite gender’s dorm at any point in time. Finally, the Theatre Intensive Camp prioritizes safety by having staff present at every activity, rehearsal, mealtime, and dorm downtime.

We value Presence over Phones. We believe it is very important for students to be fully engaged and present throughout the week. Thus, students are allowed to have their phones, but we ask that they keep them up at all times.

We value Teaching Professionalism and Personal Discipline. Theatre Intensive Camp students are asked to be on time for all rehearsals and activities. Not only will this honor the time and energy the staff spent preparing, but this will also allow students to deeply engage and benefit from each rehearsal and activity.

We value Encouragement over Discouragement. We recognize the power that words hold. Thus, all Theatre Intensive Camp participants are expected to use their words to encourage others, rather than to put others down.

We value Curious Questions over Assumptions. At the Theatre Intensive Camp, students will come from a spectrum of different faith traditions. We desire to create an environment where students feel the freedom to ask curious questions instead of making assumptions. Staff members are eager to discuss and answer any questions that students have, and thus will make themselves available to do so!

Theatre Intensive Camp cost is $330 per person. This cost covers housing, meals, supplies, and group activities. When compared to other theatre intensives hosted by a college campus, this is an unbelievable price! The student will be receiving hours of personal interaction, coaching, and direction by our theatre faculty and staff members, and will be gaining intense personal theatrical growth and production experience. While it is not possible to receive college credit for this intensive, the unique artistic opportunity is invaluable and will help students interested in pursuing theatre in a collegiate atmosphere.
