December 22, 2015 – On Friday, Dec. 11, the Rotary Club of Dayton awarded scholarships to current Bryan College freshmen Isaac Hendrix and Karis Powell at the annual Rotary luncheon in the Rhea County Room.
Isaac Hendrix, a double major in management and Christian ministry also earning a minor in music, began his address with thanks, expressing his overwhelming gratitude for the Rotary Club’s scholarship. He said, “First of all, I want to thank you all for giving me the opportunity to pursue this education here. The financial aid you’ve given me to do that is such a blessing.” He noted his desire to work with a sports ministry organization in the future, and said that his management and Christian ministry degrees will empower him to achieve that dream.
Business major Karis Powell, who also received the Rotary Club’s generous scholarship, hopes to one day own her own business. She said, “I have really enjoyed the opportunity to learn more and stretch my mind.” One of her favorite things about Bryan College is the chance to not only seriously pursue her degree but also try a hand at extracurricular interests, such as choral performance.
She told the Rotarians, “Those opportunities have only happened because of you. I want to thank you all very much for the generous scholarship you have offered me. You have no idea how much it means to me! Because of this scholarship, I can attend school; because of your support, I can have the opportunity for further my education. Because of your generosity, I have a brighter future.”
