Marler, Schmitt awarded 2018 Rotary Rhea County scholarships

December 7, 2018 – The Rotary Club of Dayton, Tenn, gathered on the Bryan College campus to celebrate the recipients of the 2018 Rotary Rhea County scholarship. Ms. Kate Swafford presented a $3,000 check for the scholarship recipients. Freshmen Ashlynn Marler and Jalyn Schmitt were the recipients of this year’s scholarships.

Marler, a psychology major and Bryan College cheerleader, was joined at the reception by her mother. Marler expressed her appreciation and honor of receiving the scholarship. She stated, “On behalf of my parents and myself, I would like to thank everyone here. Thank you and God bless.”

Schmitt, also a psychology major, plans to earn her doctorate and become a pediatric neuropsychologist. She is a member of Practical Christian Involvement and visits Rhea of Sunshine every Tuesday where they share love and encouragement with the residents. Schmitt also volunteers at Brainerd Baptist Church every other Sunday working with refugees.  

Dr. Livesay commented, “Our Dayton Rotarians work hard to enhance our community and provide opportunities for so many deserving individuals.  We are so grateful to them for this generous check to help Ashlynn and Jalyn pursue their vocational dreams.”

The luncheon reception was hosted by Bryan College and began with a special check presentation. Bryan College president, Dr. Stephen Livesay,took time to acknowledge National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day and honor our veterans. Special music was provided by the Bryan College Chamber Singers led by Dr. David Luther.
