What is GivingTuesday?

Giving Tuesday

#GivingTuesday — December 1, 2020

What is GivingTuesday?

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.

You are a piece of the puzzle!

Gifts for King

Why is Bryan involved?

Bryan College began participating in GivingTuesday in 2016. The event is an extension of our Gifts for the King campaign, which is a long-standing tradition in the Bryan community. GivingTuesday is an opportunity for alumni, faculty/staff, students, and friends of the school to play a part in displaying Christ Above All and investing in the next generation. You are a key piece of the puzzle in making this happen.

When is GivingTuesday?

Every year, Giving Tuesday is held on the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This year, GivingTuesday falls on December 1st.

Didn’t GivingTuesday already happen this year?

An extra GivingTuesday event called GivingTuesdayNow was scheduled earlier this year in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. This event helped to mitigate losses caused by the necessity to close businesses and cancel events. At Bryan, funds received during GivingTuesdayNow went toward the Bryan Opportunity Scholarship Program, the Covid-19 Student Relief fund, and the Covid-19 Bryan Support Fund.

Where does the money go?

All funds raised during GivingTuesday go toward the Bryan Scholarship Fund. 93% of our students receive institutional scholarship funds in order to attend Bryan College, and the average amount of institutional student aid is $6,964. The Bryan Scholarship Fund allows us to provide student aid and continue educating students to become servants of Christ to make a difference in today’s world.

Why is GivingTuesday important?

The heart of Bryan College is our students. Our desire is to glorify Christ above all through serving our students. Our verse of the year is

1 Peter 4:10: “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another as good stewards of God’s varied grace” (ESV).

As we have been blessed by God, so we desire to bless others. GivingTuesday is an opportunity to serve our students. We can each be a piece of the puzzle in making a difference in their lives.

How do I participate?

GivingTuesday is about giving back, and there are several ways you can do that!

  • Pray for our students. Our students are facing a multitude of challenges this year. Pray that God will give them strength and motivation as they learn and grow on the Hill.
  • Send encouragement. Know a Bryan College student or employee? Send them a note of encouragement.
  • Give. Whether you can give $5 or $5,000, every gift is a valuable contribution to making a difference in students’ lives. DONATE NOW by credit card or PayPal. You can also give through AmazonSmile; more details below.
